A guide to the shorthand and slang of the Lummites.

Background: Much like the Jargon File, we at Lum's Gimped Message Boards have a bit of our own sub-culture. Some of the notes after entries are cross referenced below. Lum the Mad is a rant site for MMORPG's that hosts a board entitled "Lum's Gimped Blackboard - Moderated by the Stalinists. For the children." The board is frequented by many people who prefer to blow idle hours at work off by discussing a myriad of things. It went through three incarnations and two websites, and is currently a WWWThreads board. Again. After much testing and breaking of other type of boards.

This Lum-tionary was started on 8.14.00 by RasputinAXP. Contributions by (in order of posting on the thread) Dids, Neep, Selby, Trent, Sir Einer, Kiler, deVoca, Nobody, Ytrewq, Sky, Dolemite, k3wl KoF, Lunkwill Fook, hirak, Myschyf, Elysium, Ceryx Cybium, Mr Frump Avatar of Legend, Mira de Vorsha, Old Hand, Asinine, Kytelae, Archimedes, Jess, TekWolf and SaintWeb.

All names are the usernames from the Gimped Blackboard. Until we figure we've got a handle on our copious dictionary, consider this version Beta 0.9a of the Lum-tionary. Is it just me or does this read like a FAQ? Any questions, let me know. Updated 07/06/01.

Following a post by Lum to Samizdata regarding the board histories, we now have...
LUM'S CANONICAL GUIDE TO BOARDS:
rev 1: WebBoards (threaded, perl, didn't last long)
rev 2: UBB (lasted about 6 months including a move from my personal web server to xrgaming, abandoned with 1st move from xrgaming)
rev 3: wwwthreads (what we used when we moved off of xrgaming the first time, home of the proto-water "woot-woot" thread. by the way I fucking hate wooting.)
rev 3: vBulletin (what we used when at Atomic Rhino, didn't stay up long)
rev 4: Cyboards (what XRG forced us to use when we came back. At first I hated it but it grew on you, especially since Allen Grey and Virgil did a stellar job of customizing it due to our whines. I'd still use it if I could. Home of the infamous water thread
rev 5: wwwthreads mark 2 (what I opened on another server when XRG started to go to hell. said another server could not handle the load and the boards eventually blew up)
rev 6: HELL. We'll throw all the things we threw into the beast trying to keep it running for about 2 weeks here. I think we tried UBB, wwwthreads, and vBulletin in rapid sucession. The web server we were on after moving off of XRG the second time could not cope.)
rev 7: EZBoards. Otherwise known as "fuck it, let someone else run the boards while our hosting calms down". Worked, sort of.

Phrase Definition
&blowme interj. Insult. According to Elysium, "Lum received a letter suggesting that he have different colors for different people, and that he should use the HTML whitespace command of "&nbsp" to make things nicer on the eyes, to which he replied, &blowme." q.v. said article
1337 adj. "Cool" or "exciting." 1337 = leet = "elite." hackercaps.
4$$r4p3 v. 1. to assrape, when a player has been PK'd, particularly in UO; hackercaps, PKSpeak. ALSO: azzrape, *azzrape*
A COMPANY IS AT STEAK! phr. Another brilliantly-edited statement by a Dawn supporter to a Lummie. "DON'T YOU GUYS KNOW..."
asshead n. From vaporware veteran Caeron 3000. Their early concepts of the "Hawkeen" race included a head that appeared to be a blend between a Klingon's head and a giant ass. As of last update, this race's head now looks like a vagina.
bake bread phr. From Shadowbane promotional statement: "I don't play games to bake bread, I play games TO CRUSH!" A reference to the game being slanted towards PvP and not to the "bread baking Rollplayahs."
because X is hard phr. Sarcasm. Often used in a post edit, ie. "edited because HTML is hard." Thought to originate from a Simpsons episode wherein Lisa had a Malibu Stacy doll that said "Math is hard!" when her string was pulled. Episode was based on a REAL Barbie doll that actually said...yup. Math is hard.
bitchcake n. Term of endearment amongst Lummies. Originated by PyroRaven.
biznatchio n. bitch. q.v. Captain Ebolter
Br1nG b@ck pr3cAst1nG beeyotch!! phr. sarcastic. Used as generic complaint. hackercaps, PKSpeak. q.v. Ultima Online, bug fixes
bumpfuzzle v. A leg-humping emote. Often used when sarcastically describing "furries" or obsessive roleplayers. "love-in." q.v. fuzzlefuck
Captain Ebolter n. a fictional character, stereotypical of a PK in Ultima Online.
cat ass adj. bad. There was a Lum article about a guy whose house smelled like cat ass because he wouldn't get off EQ long enough to clean the litter box.
*claw* *claw* title attributed to Jess' signature on her posts. Evil koalas and such.
Deus Irae n. Latin, meaning "God of Wrath" (or anger, depending on translation). Official title of Lum and his cronies/updaters on the old (pre-WWWThreads) boards.
for the children. phr. why Lum's boards are gimped. Reasoning applies to any situation on boards.
fuzzlefuck v. Root words: Fuzzling. Fuzzlebumping. Fuzzling root: Behavior on Crossroads of Dereth, very very informal, often "cutesy" "relationships" between GAME DEVS and players. q.v. bumpfuzzle
grief v. 1. to do something with no other purpose then to cause annoyance / pain / misery. 2. any sort of screwing with someone or something, however minor.
I disagree with what you said phr. ""it's amazing that somebody with that much man-dick in his mouth is still able to say such stupid things."
kbot n. The semi-sentient 'bot that lives in #lumcorp (amongst other channels) on irc.sorcery.net; was preceded by gbot.
keke interj. ha-ha, Asian slang.
kthx phr. Short for "Ok, thanks." Derogatory, usually ending a flame. hackerspeak. It came into mass use during Kash's Water Thread. ALSO kthxbye, kthxbbl
LumCorp n. 1. The body of ltm.net proper (Lum, Mys, LoH, Hedron, Eldin et al.) NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH
2. The online gamers involved with www.lumcorp.com including players of UO, AO, EQ and JG.
Lummie n. A regular of the message boards, or the Sorcery.net IRC channels #lummies and #lumcorp. ALSO Lummites, although Lummites may designate more of a "religious fervor" so to speak.
m4D pR0Pz n. mad props; sarcastic. hackercaps.
makes Baby Jesus cry phr. Started by Nobody. Can be prefaced with anything "bad." Usage: "Exploiting makes Baby Jesus cry!"
PIG n. Player-interactive game. Hedron's synonym for MMORPG's.
Pika? interrog. Indicates confusion. Noncommital answer, sim. to "mu" in Japan. From Nintendo's "Pokémon" series. Originated by PyroRaven.
Psycho. n. Insane, usually in a one-line reply to a fully-quoted post. Originated by GORDON.
Red Named Personage adj. Official title for a game developer that posts on the Blackboard. From COB; they actually had usernames in red.
r0xx0r v. 1. "defeat" 2. "Kill" or "maim." Usage: I r0xx0r j00, he r0xx0rs j00, etc. UO PKSpeak.
sadf imp. 1. once upon a time there was a piece of vaporware called Dawn which used 'sadf' as the SUBJECT LINE for a 'you're all in beta' letter. they put 'sadf' in their subject lines for their mailing list. 2. Also interchangeable for "pathetic"
sbot n. The semi-sentient 'bot that lives in #lummies on irc.sorcery.net
soylent beer n. fictional LumCorp-manufactured beverage. Shh. Soylent beer is people.
STFU! imp. lit. "Shut the Fuck up!"; acronym, but usage indicates verb, usually in imperative form.
thong n. What Kiler wears instead of boxers or briefs.
u suk! excl. lit. "You suck!"; PKSpeak.
unfair to some phr. preceded by noun. Use: "X is unfair to some." q.v. Captain Ebolter; ALSO appended by "and whatnot"
UO is love phr. =^.^= Asian.
Water thread n. Synonymous with "spam." From KasH's thread which ran on the xrgaming.net boards for over 3000 posts; began with the statement "I HAVE DROPPED A GLASS OF WATER ON THE FLOOR (body: now I must get a mop or a rag and clean it up kthx)"
